Plastic Surgery "Bigger Breasts" Issues

A shocking study, (2004), revealed that women who have breast implants are three times more likely to commit suicide than the rest of the population in the first few years after their operation.

The data was releasd after scientists in the US and Finland conducted a study in which 2,166 women who had breast implants were examined over a 30 year period.

The results of the research, which was published in the US publication "Annals of Plastic Surgery" suggested that the suicide risk has to do with the psychological problems of women who seek implants, which typically can be low self esteem, body dysmorphia or depression.

The results of the study underscores the importance of plastic surgeons actively assessing the psychological state of a patient before patients are cleared for surgery.
