Hymenoplasty
Hymenoplasty is the "new, hip" plastic surgery reattaching a woman's hymen for the ultimate virginal appearance.
The practice is prevalent in Middle Eastern countries and Latin American, where virginity is deeply tied into the culture, and the practice is now becoming more popular in the United States, according to the United Press International.
Just another option added to the world of plastic surgery, where women can nip, tuck and now reattach body parts with the wave of a check.
The article called the process "revirgination," which can cost as little as $1,800 at some health and beauty centers.
One beauty center owner compared losing virginity to losing a family member, and her center could make it seem as if nothing ever happened.
Wow, she's a regular Godfather - that is, Godfather of "revirgination."
Having your hymen reattached to appear like a virgin is a lie.
Whether or not virginity is sacred, hymenoplasty is an expensive purchase of deceit.
Nearly 11,000 people had some form of cosmetic surgery in 2004, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
The continued drive to change appearances just contributes to the impulsive obsession some women have with striving for societal perfection, conforming who they truly are.
An intact hymen may have been believed to be the only "true test" of virginity at one time, but I don't see why it would be anymore. Sure, it breaks during intercourse, but it also can break from using a tampon or during athletic exertion, and a few women are born without one.
And the unhealthy struggle to conform for today's fad continues to degrade women's roles for tomorrow.
