Greeks "Go Under The Knife" For Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery appears to be gaining popularity in Greece, as recently released data shows that some 10,000 operations are conducted every year on people looking for a change in their appearance.

Yiannis Litras, the president of the European Academy of Plastic Surgery, has told a conference in Athens that most operations in Greece are done to the nose, followed by changes made to the breasts. The third most popular area is the gluteus muscles.

Plastic surgery changes are also linked to patients’ pockets. During the period when the Athens bourse general index soared to dizzying heights in the late 1990s, plastic surgery operations peaked, hitting 25,000 per year, Litras said.
