S. Korean Fencer's Suspension For Plastic Surgery Is Reduced

Seoul, South Korea (AHN) - A fencer who was suspended from the South Korean national team for undergoing plastic surgery has been granted a reduction in her two year sentence.

Nam Hyun-hee missed training when she had cosmetic surgery on her eyes and cheeks in December. She failed to inform fencing authorities about the procedure, so she was cut from the team, report Reuters.

Officials say on Thursday that they decided to reduce the foil fencer's suspension to six months after reviewing her case.

"Everyone does plastic surgery these days," says Kim Guk-hyeon, the executive director of the Korean Fencing Federation.

"A national team player, however, is different from other people," Kim says. "They have to be prepared to fight like a soldier."
