Microscope Allows For Delicate Plastic Surgery Procedures

The ability of surgeons to perform delicate plastic surgery in Tasmania has been dramatically improved.

A new microscope is being used at the Royal Hobart Hospital, replacing older technology which would sometimes malfunction during important operations.

Surgeons have used the new technology to operate on a 57-year-old man who required surgery to reconstruct part of his face affected by cancer.

Associate Professor Frank Kimble says the microscope allows doctors to repair nerves and blood vessels less than a millimetre in diameter.
